Lever locks are generally
morticed into the edge of a door and first developed by
Chubb, hence most people tend to refer to these locks as
Chubb locks.
Most insurance companies specify a five lever BS 3621
mortice lock for entrance doors to buildings.
Various styles of lever are in
use, and a variant of the mortice deadlock is the
detainer lock, both use levers and the principle is
exactly the same. As the key is turned it raises the
lever heights until they line up and allow a numb of
metal secured to the bolt to pass through or by them.
